ALOO-CHOKHA/Spicy mashed potatoes


  • Boiled potatoes – 2 (big-sized)
  • Onion – 1 medium-sized (finely chopped)
  • Green chilies – 4 (finely chopped)
  • Coriander leaves -2 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • Salt to taste

For Tempering

  • Mustard cooking oil – 2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida – 1 pinch
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Dry red chilies – 2-3


  • Take a mixing bowl,mash all potatoes.

  • Add chopped onion,coriander leaves,green chilies & salt.

  • Mix well.
  • Now for Tempering, heat a tadka pan on medium flame.
  • Add oil.
  • Lower the flame & add asafoetida,cumin seeds & dry red chilies.

  • Saute till red chilies turn crispy.Do not burn.
  • Pour this tadka over the mixing bowl.Mix everything well.Crush the red chilies also.

  • Aloo-Chokha is ready.
  • Mix well before serving.
